General Info:

TIME: 1:00-5:00 PM (Pacific Time)
PLACE: Claremont Resort & Spa (Berkeley, California)
May-Day for May!
"Let 1,000 crypto-flowers bloom for Mother's Day."
The May 1999 Physical Meeting of the San Francisco Bay Area Cypherpunks
will focus on the 06 May 99 decision by the 9th District Court of Appeals,
in favor of Dan Bernstein that the US Government's export regulations on
cryptography are unconstitutional. We are once again fortunate to have
Cindy Cohn, the lead attorney on the Bernstein/EFF legal team (and Crypto
Counsel for the CryptoRights Foundation) to explain the case, the ruling
and its ramifications for cypherpunks elsewhere.
As always, this is an Open Meeting on US Soil and members of the
Public are encouraged to attend.
Meeting Agenda:
"Our agenda is a widely-held secret."
1:00-1:30 — Mill about suspiciously and drink fizzy water.
1:30-5:00 — Bernstein v USDOJ decision update with Cindy Cohn
Security and Freedom through Encryption Act (SAFE) discussion

Location Info:
The meeting location will be the Claremont Resort & Spa. The Claremont
is a low-security facility, reknowned for its beautiful setting in the
Berkeley hills, a few miles south of the UC Berkeley campus.
Meeting Area:
We'll meet in the "Living Room" on the 2nd floor Mezzanine level. Signage
will guide you (if the hotel allows), but you're smart enough to find it.
IMPORTANT NOTES: The Living Room has limited space, so smaller groups may
break out to meet elsewhere if lots of people show up. Come to the
"Living Room" to find out what's up. If you want snacks or drinks, please
bring some for yourself and others.

Additional Meeting Notes:
1. The 1999 IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy is being held at the
Claremont from 09-12 May. It's the 20th annual meeting sponsored by the
IEEE Technical Committee on Security and Privacy, this time in
cooperation with the International Association of Cryptologic Research,
and various events are scheduled for the conference.
There is an IEEE pre-convention meeting in the "Board Room" at 3pm,
but that room only holds 20 people, so if you plant to invite
yourself, please contact one of the conference organizers (John
McLean/General Chair, Jonathan Millen/Vice Chair, Li Gong/Program
Co-Chair, Michael Reiter/Program Co-Chair) to ask if it's OK.
