The March 1999 San Francisco Bay Area Cypherpunks meeting will
be held at San Francisco Airport International Airport in the
Terminal Food Court.
Note that this is an Open Meeting on US Soil, and that the airport
provides Free Speech tables for distribution of printed literature.

3:00-6:00 — Airport Mapping Exercise
Wandering around SFO in teams with "toys".
Equipment Notes:
Interesting items to bring for the Airport Mapping Exercise might include:
+ Computers of various shapes and sizes.
- Metricom RF modems.
- Power strips and long extension cords (dark colors preferred).
+ Frequency scanners and other radio gear.
+ Cellphones, perhaps with various modifications.
+ GPS units (N.B: reception inside is less than optimal).
+ Ultrasonic measuring devices.
+ Digital cameras.
+ Video cameras (small, unobtrusive: note restricted security areas).
+ Post-It notepads and marker pens.
+ Clipboards and other "official-looking" items.
+ Crypto literature (printed) for public distribution.
Additional Notes:
A video projector may be available if you want to give a laptop-based talk,
and there are some interesting spaces near the food court that have probably
never been used that way.
Advanced notice is required by Thursday if you need to use the projector.
Bring your own PC to drive the presentation.
As usual, some of us will gather for dinner nearby after the meeting:
you must be present to eat with us.

File a flight plan for SFO.
Alternatively, most major airlines have numerous flights to SFO.
Driving Directions:
TAKE Highway 101 (North or South).
EXIT at SF International Airport.
Note: be prepared for detours: major construction is underway at SFO.
PARK in the short-term (Level 5) parking area
(max fee is ~$22 for 24 hours, for this meeting ~$10-$15).
or drive to PCA (north of SFO) or Anza (south of SFO) for parking (~$12/day).

Drive to Millbrae Caltrain Station, park for $1
Free shuttle to SFO Airport.
Meeting Area:
The International Terminal is located at middle of the SFO terminals.
There will be no onsite signage indicating a "Cypherpunks" meeting.
Proceed to the International Terminal's Food Service Facility.
Follow your nose.
Tune HAM radios to 434.35 for short radio-burst location inquiries.
If that frequency is problematic, try 434.00 or 435.00.
Meeting Notes:
Building:
SFO is a high-security facility. Keep in mind that airports are
hotbeds of law enforcement activity, so conduct yourself accordingly.
Talking about security is not a crime (yet), but discussing how to make
explosive devices at the top of your vocal range with airport security
officers nearby is probably inadvisable, unless you have your defense
attorney present with a written affadavit stating that you are a
security professional performing a training exercise or some such
plausible rationale. In general, please don't make intentional trouble
for other Cypherpunks.
Whether or not to carry personal identification is an interesting
question, but be mindful that you (and your vehicle) will have been
videotaped from the moment you entered the parking facility.
Attire:
Clothes are highly recommended.
"Key Escrow Agent" jackets might even be a nice touch.
