As usual, this is an Open Meeting on US Soil, and everyone's invited, even those skeezy Figure-Skating Judges.

Predicted topics include:

Our Man in Havana: intrepid globetrotter Bill Scannell's 'Viaje en Cuba'.
Discussion on the Necessity & Periodicity of Future Cypherpunks Meetings.
GNU Radio OpenSDR, HDTV & FlexRadio/SDR at CryptoRights.
CodeCon 2002 Discussion.
(featuring crypto and data-sharing presentations, potentially a couple of projects that were too late for CodeCon, and generally what everybody's been doing and working on.)

The unusual time, as well as the place, of this month's meeting are due to the CodeCon 2002 conference www.codecon.org, which will be held one block away at the DNA Lounge www.dnalounge.com in San Francisco on Friday, Saturday & Sunday afternoons (15/16/17 Feb, 12:00-5:00pm). CodeCon is billed as "A conference for the P2P, cypherpunk, and network/security developer community: a workshop for developers of real-world applications that support individual liberties." A number of cypherpunks will be speaking at CodeCon: see people.html and schedule.html. CodeCon 2002 is an affordable conference. It's not a trade show, it's a "code show" for cypherpunks. How refreshing.

The RSA conference will be at the San Jose Convention Center the following week (at the opposite end of the San Francisco Bay, ~50+ miles away). The RSA Conference appears to have decided to protect their agenda through Obscurity; you can obtain PDFs of the agenda from their website (only) if you have the proprietary Flash multimedia plugin. RSA has high-priced talks, low-priced exhibits, and the usual vendor parties. It's a commercial trade show. Yawn.

Just look for the Usual Suspects, probably upstairs. You'll figure it out when you get there.
The restaurant serves family-style Mexican food, as well as caffeine and ethanol, and is said to be "pretty good."

From the South Bay (e.g. San Jose/Silicon Valley/etc):

Take US-101 North to San Francisco. (From San Jose, it's ~45 miles/~70 kilometers)
EXIT at Duboce Ave/Mission St.
KEEP RIGHT at the fork in the ramp (~0.05 mi/~0.1 km).
RIGHT onto Mission ST [aka US-101 N]. (~0.2 mi/0.3 km)
SLIGHT RIGHT onto Mission ST. (~0.1 mi/~0.2 km)
RIGHT onto 11th ST. (~0.15 mi/~0.25 km)
GO SOUTH 2-3 blocks, watching for street parking near Don Ramon's on the right. DNA is one block further, and the big CostCo parking lot just beyond that.

From the East Bay (e.g. Oakland/Berkeley/etc):

I-80 West to San Francisco.
EXIT (from the right lane) towards Ninth Street/Civic Center. (0.10 miles/~0.18 km)
KEEP RIGHT at the fork in the ramp. (~0.05 mi/~0.08 km)
LEFT onto Harrison ST. (~0.10 mi/~0.19 km)
RIGHT onto 9th Street. (~0.24 mi/~0.4 km)
LEFT onto Howard Stret. (~0.18 mi/~0.29 km)
LEFT onto 11th St. (~0.03 mi/~0.05 km)
DNA and Don Ramon's are both on your left side as you travel South.
If you end up under another freeway on Division St., turn around!

By Public Transit
From the SF Peninsula & San Jose:

CalTrain is the commuter train system on the SF Peninsula.
San Jose to San Francisco can take about 1.5 hours, depending on Saturday schedules.
Connect to the #47 bus from the San Francisco CalTrain train station (end of the line) at 4th & King Streets to the meeting location (ask the driver where to disembark). Call the MUNI Bus info number at (415) 673-MUNI for additional door-to-door bus routing info from the SF Municipal Rail folks.
There are MUNI Bus Stops at 11th and Harrison (right outside the DNA club), and at Market and Van Ness (four blocks away).

From the East Bay:

BART rapid-transit stations are nearby at 16th & Mission and Civic Center (Market and Hyde), both being an easy (flat) walk of about 3/4 mile.

Parking
Ample public parking for your PMD is easily available at the:

CostCo parking lot at the corner of 11th and Harrison. The parking lot entrance is on 11th.
Free street parking is also computationally feasible, but beware: the street cleaning signs indicate when elegantly-constructed parking tickets willl be being handed out by the charming representatives of the DPT with a ferocious sense of duty.
